[08/21] Explosion at LA building injures sends 2 to hospital
August 21, 2015
LOS ANGELES (AP) – Authorities say two people were taken to the hospital following an explosion at a downtown Los Angeles building late Thursday night.
The Los Angeles Fire Department says the blast occurred around 10 p.m. PDT in an underground part of the 19-story building on Wilshire Boulevard.
The department says four people complained of injuries: a woman with head pain and a man with back pain were taken to hospitals, while one person declined treatment and another just walked away.
Department spokesman Brian Humphrey tells City News Service that the building was believed to have suffered structural damage.
He says a fire that broke out was quickly extinguished.
CNS reported that a generator exploded.
Staples Center officials say the blast caused a momentary power outage at Staples Center during a concert.
