[08/18] Police: Skydiver dies after landing hard in Vermont field

August 18, 2015

WEST ADDISON, Vt. (AP) – Authorities are investigating the death of a 68-year-year-old man who was skydiving in Vermont.

State Police say Vermont Skydiving Adventures was operating a jump for Joseph Crossley in West Addison on Monday when he made a hard landing in a field.

They say the East Hardwick man spiraled out of control before he fell.

Authorities are trying to figure out what might have gone wrong after Crossley jumped out of the plane. Sgt. Matt Daley says they don’t know if he suffered a medical event or if his death had to do with the landing. An autopsy was planned for Tuesday.

Daley says the chute opened and Crossley was wearing a helmet.

Vermont Skydiving Adventures says it’s aiding in the investigation.
