Mothers sacrifice a lot to bring their children into the world. But the sacrifices don’t always stop there. After childbearing and as they age, many women end up with pelvic organ prolapse, which is when the pelvic organs drop because of weakness or damage to the pelvic floor.
Pelvic organ prolapse, or POP, can cause extreme discomfort as well as other problems, including vaginal dryness, urinary and/or fecal incontinence, and pain with intercourse. In effort to correct the problem, women may have transvaginal mesh or bladder slings installed as a so-called permanent solution.
Unfortunately, transvaginal mesh and bladder slings have a history of creating a whole new set of complications that can be just as bad as or worse than POP. The problems typically arise during the surgery to install the medical devices or shortly after the surgery.
Thousands of women have reported:
- chronic pain
- recurrence of POP
- pain during intercourse
- scarring
- infections
- removal, resulting in additional, painful surgeries
Even with all the reported complications with vaginal mesh and bladder sling products, no product recalls have been issued. Women who have been harmed by the defective medical products are turning to lawsuits to hold the manufacturers accountable.
These women aren’t just sending the message that manufacturers like Johnson & Johnson, Boston Scientific and American Medical Systems (AMS) should stop selling the products, they are also demanding compensation for the medical bills, lost wages and other losses that they have suffered.
