The injuries that can be suffered in a car accident can vary greatly. Some wrecks in Louisiana are relatively minor, resulting in only bumps, bruises and scrapes. Other crashes leave victims with broken bones and serious cuts that may become infected if improperly treated. The wrecks leave individuals permanently disabled or dead. Those who are fortunate enough to survive their accident may find themselves struggling to cope with the physical, emotional and financial losses they face.
This can be especially true when an individual suffers a traumatic brain injury. Even relatively minor brain injuries can leave an individual facing difficulties, though. Some signs of mild traumatic brain injury may include loss of consciousness, headaches, nausea, drowsiness and loss of balance. These injuries can also evidence themselves by a sufferer’s sensitivity to light, memory loss and changes in mood.
Moderate and severe traumatic brain injury symptoms can be much more significant. A sufferer may be unconscious for an extended amount of time, exhibit confusion, have difficulty refraining from slurred speech and experience numbness in the extremities. Although these are initial symptoms of a traumatic brain injury, their effects can last long-term. These sufferers may be unable to properly function mentally and physically for years or even decades to come. In many instances, traumatic brain injury sufferers are never able to fully regain their pre-accident abilities.
With that being said, there are treatment and rehabilitation options available to those who have suffered a traumatic brain injury. Yet, these treatments can be astoundingly expensive. Fortunately, those who suffered their injury due to the negligence of another, like a negligent driver, may be able to pursue a personal injury lawsuit. This can bring much needed compensation to help pay off bills such as medical expenses and rehabilitation costs, and recoup lost wages. Hopefully then a traumatic brain injury sufferer can obtain the financial stability he or she needs to be able to focus on the fight to reclaim their life.
