Families wait all year for the holiday season, getting together and celebrating good cheer. It is a tragic turn of events that snatches loved ones away from their family members right before the festive season in a completely preventable car crash.

Family members are probably trying to come to terms with their loss as a 19-year-old girl and her seven-month-old baby died in a car accident on Christmas Eve in Louisiana. According to investigators, the 37-year-old woman suspected of causing the crash was actually fleeing the scene of a previous accident that she had caused. According to police, she had previously caused another accident and was leaving the scene at a high rate of speed when she hit the vehicle carrying the accident victims. Her car hit the back of the other one, resulting in the rupturing of the gas tank of the victim’s car.

Both vehicles caught fire and the negligent driver was able to exit her vehicle but the victims had to be pulled from their car. In addition to the decedents, the young girl’s fiancé was also in the car and was taken to the hospital to receive treatment for his injuries. According to the authorities, the driver who caused the accident was not only traveling very fast, she was drunk driving.

A bad decision made in a split second can have repercussions that reverberate across time and space. When a young person dies, the endless possibilities that their life could have brought are extinguished and families often struggle to come to terms with their loss. It takes an emotional and financial toll on family members and it might be possible to get monetary compensation that could account for the pain and suffering loved ones have gone through.
